Spalpeen Tropy Evening for Kinsale RNLI.

Sailors & friends from near and far were invited to come along to Kinsale Yacht Club on Wednesday night, 7th September 2007 for the RNLI Spalpeen Trophy Evening, in memory of the late Billy Draper and organised by his family - Susan, Leslie and Trevor.

A monster raffle - first prize trip to Amsterdam, kindly presented by E&T Builders and Lee Travel - was held during the evening, along with an auction for some wonderful items, including dinners for eight and fabulous framed Giles Norman prints.

Twenty competing yachts turned out in style to compete in the annual all-in Spalpeen Trophy race night.

  • On the water, the O’ Riordan/Murphy team aboard "Y-Dream" sailed a blinder and swooped the coveted trophy title for 2007.
  • In this ECHO division by the McCarthy’s "Mac Magic II" was a very close second.
  • Dan Buckley’s "Justus" was 3rd in this class.
  • Padraig O’ Donovan’s "Chameleon" won IRC on the night, followed by Tony Kingson’s "Cracker" in second place and Dan Buckley's "Justus" in third.

A fun night was had by all at the KYC clubhouse thereafter with live music, a monster raffle and an exciting auction enjoyed by all the family. The fun and entertaining Tomas O’ Brien kindly hosted the occasion and kept everyone laughing. A selection of delicious finger food was kindly provided by Clonakilty Black Pudding.

A whopping €8,000 was raised for equipment and training of our local RNLI crew who continue to work fearlessly and voluntarily along our coastline to save lives at sea!

MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK PART.
